The first in a series
of Master Lessons is ready. It's a dropped D tuning slide version
of a 12 bar blues à la
Crossroads. Master Lessons follow the same format as the free
lessons you find at this site, namely movie/tab/midi/explicit
commentary. The difference is in the quality. Online lessons
need to be compressed to small file size to allow for bandwidth
restrictions. These lesson however are on CD, so the quality
of the video and sound is excellent. This first lesson is over
300 Mbs! It consists of 5 movies (two with spoken commentary),
several 'fretscape' graphics; an entire improvised solo transcribed
into tablature/midi for you to follow along to; midi and WAV
files to jam to; six pages of written commentary.
- You will learn about what I, at least, consider
to be the best tuning for slide: Dropped D. Since only one
string is altered (the bass string) the guitar is basically
still in standard tuning. That means that all the work you
have put into mapping your fretboard still applies.
- You will
find out how rich that fretboard environment is for slide
playing
- You will learn about playing behind the slide with
your free fingers. This allows you to combine both normal
and slide playing into one extremely versatile technique.
- You
will learn more about the power of chord tones and their
role in improvisation.
- You will see for yourself in crystal
clear movies (Windows Media Player only) how to mute unplayed
strings, the real secret to playing slide.
- How to backstroke the thumb.
- How to vibrato.
- How to transition from normal
playing to slide playing.
- How to choose notes andwhere the
line-up positions are.
- What the master template looks like.
It's even
better than having me there with you, one on one, showing
you how to do it, because you can go through all the movies,
sound files and graphics over and over. Order below and you'll have it within 10 days!
