Sure I'd like to see my whole fretboard as friendly, familiar territory! What's the trick?

PlaneTalk - The Truly Totally Different Guitar Instruction Book + Slide RulePlaneTalk - The Truly Totally Different Guitar Instruction Book/DVD, which comes with The Guitar Slide Rule, has been selling from this site since 1997, going out to all corners of the English speaking World, teaching well over ten thousand guitarists the simple visualization technique that is the 'trick' to turning your entire fretboard into familiar territory.

This is not really for beginners, but if you're one of those who has the basics down—you know your chords and scales—but you can't seem to bring them all together on the fretboard and turn them into MUSIC, then read on. Endorsed by the great Tommy Emmanuel, this book easily lives up to its subtitle: The Truly Totally Different Guitar Instruction Book.

The lesson is delivered as a comic strip conversation that takes place on a plane between a seasoned guitarist and a guy who gave up trying to figure it all out. The reader gets to listen in as the pro lets him in on a secret, a shorthand way of tracking all music on the guitar. The hour long DVD demonstrates the technique.

Join the thousands who learned the PlaneTalk mindset

I can confidently state that, if you're still wondering what the trick is to using the whole fretboard, this will be the most valuable music/guitar lesson you will ever learn. Once you purchase, you can join the PlaneTalkers' Forum where you can ask any questions about the technique. I'm there every day and so are many other PlaneTalkers. We've made over 12,000 posts there so far, so it's a very active group. We all agree it's the most succinct way of thinking about music and how it looks on a fretboard.

Read some of the many testimonials I receive

I have finished my "How to play Slide Guitar in Standard and Dropped D Tunings" DVD. I, like most other sliders, started off in open tunings, and while I did love them, I wanted to incorporate slide into my normal playing, so I reverted to Standard then discovered that dropping that bass string down to D gave me the best of both worlds. It was in fact poking around the fretboard searching for slide positions that gave me my "Eureka" moment which led to PlaneTalk. The DVD goes for 70 minutes and I make good use of the overlay feature in the video, showing exactly what's going on the fretboard. Below are a bunch of movies of me playing in Dropped D.
